Do you know how many public holidays there are in China? And what popular activities Chinese people do during these holidays? Let’s learn a little about Chinese holidays.
There are three kinds of public holidays in China: one kind applies to everyone, like Spring festival, New year’s day and Labor day, which is also called May First holiday, and National day, which is also called October Golden Week. Other holidays are for specific groups only, like Women’s Day, Children’s Day -- also called June First, and PLA Day (The Chinese People's Liberation Army) etc. Other holidays are for minority groups. The specific dates are determined according to the minority group’s traditions.
In China, holidays that last seven days, like National day and Spring festival, can also be called Golden Weeks, while holidays that have only three days, like Labor Day and Tomb Sweeping Day, are called long weekends. Whenever Golden Weeks and Long Weekends arrive, most people will travel and visit family.
